Back to topic.

I notice on here the ex-Pats have talked about Soldier Field fan park and this has been mentioned after each of a couple of games on UK television and radio. Why the big interest in Chicago? Is there a big 1st and 2nd generation immigrants in the city? Also have there been big fanfests elsewhere?

I think I mentioned earlier that I get pestered about football by the hispanics in Miami and in LA but I dare say they follow their own countries - Costa Rica or Mexico or even Argentina. I spent an hour or more talking football to three Argentinians in a bar in Miami. All three live in Miami.

Also, do you ex-pats have an MLS team that you follow?
It was great! Chicago has had a great network of youth soccer leagues and academies. Now the first wave of kids from those places have grown up after playing for years and encourage their kids to participate. Add to that our diverse neighborhoods, and Chicago has become a great soccer hub in the U.S.

I follow the Chicago Fire **thumbup It was big news when we got a stadium dedicated to the Fire only...before the team had to rent and play in American football stadiums

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Can't count out the Germans, they always turn up to major tourneys
No way. Spain are too old/past it/sterile/old hat. Germany do not have a striker. Belgium appear to be Europes best bet, but do they have the experience? Will they be naive?

The winner will come from South America. Argentina are my favourites. You can't discount Brazil as it's their World Cup. For those who like a bet how about Uruguay or Columbia for an each way?

ahem ;)

CB

I rarely follow the MLS to be honest , I stick to all the English 'live' games throughout the season , Premier League, Championship, League Cup and FA Cup but I only really get into the Champions League once the knockout stages start

In the 2nd tier of American pro soccer, the NASL, the Tampa Bay Rowdies returned to the scene, the closest team to my area .....they play in an old baseball field in downtown St Petersburg, FL (a former spring training camp for both The Yankees and The Mets) .....In all honesty I had no idea they had even made a comeback

There was crowd trouble at what we Brits would call a 'derby' game last week between the Rowdies and Orlando City (a team from about 90 miles away at least :LMAO: )....and many flares were let off .....there are some cracking bars and music venues in downtown St Pete though so I'd not be surprised if some excess alcohol was not a factor

In fact I think they (well those ex pats who also hate the term 'soccer' anyway) even call it the I-4 'derby'.....there were 16 ejections from the stadium and 4 arrests made by the SPPD , all from the Orlando support......I reckon Mickey Mouse, Pluto and Goofy were behind it all

I read Orlando are to be allowed a MLS franchise in 2015 so I guess they had better warn some of the fans to behave on the road
